New skirts, blouses, sweaters, shoes and
hosiery are staples in every girl's wardrobe but not every girl is lucky enough
to have have these necessities. The girls at the Rubin-Zeffren Home come from various
needy backgrounds where a new pair of shoes is not common, a dress`for a
holiday that is unused is very dear, and outerwear is always a
hand-me-down.
Dina and Sarah were so thrilled when they
went shopping with their counselors and actually got to try on skirts and tops
of their choice. They kept asking if they were just trying on these new
garments, or if they were actually going to be purchased for them. When their
choices were brought to the register and paid for, then bagged and handed to
the girls, their glowed with smiles.
Leah and Carmit, two younger housemates said they
never wore new dresses before. They told the housemother they felt like
princesses in their gorgeous clothes. Research in the field of self esteem and
self worth teaches us that children need to look their best to feel good about
themselves. Their dignity is very important. Thread-bare clothes, worn
down shoes, raggedy sweaters and spotted garments cause a child to feel
shame. Their level of concentration in school, their friendships, and their
potential success suffers greatly when they are not properly clothed.
The Lev LaLev Fund, with your help,
is determined to bring the girls at the Home to a higher level of being.
Through your constant generosity, LLL provides them with the extra necessities
needed so they can walk proudly into the classroom, wearing new and clean
uniforms. They also go the extra mile to provide them with Sabbath and holiday outfits.
