Dear ,

My family moved from Connecticut to Texas the summer after I finished 5th grade. It was the shortest summer of my life.

I learned that year that in the warm Southern states of the U.S. the school year ends in May and starts in August. Since my school year ended in late June (due to numerous snow-days from the 1995-1996 record breaking 115 inches of snowfall) I was left with a 5 week summer break. So I can relate to how hard it may be to think about school before summer is even over.

However, this was not the case for New Jersey Bat Mitzvah girl Remy Wynston. She was thinking about helping orphans prepare for the school year back in July! For her mitzvah project, she collected various school supplies for the orphan girls of Lev LaLev. Read more about her in this month’s mitzvah profile.

Thank you all for always being such an inspiration, all year long!

 Sell Rosh Hashana cards

It may seem far away (46 days to be exact) but before we know it we will be celebrating Rosh Hashana. Every year, Lev LaLev sells beautiful hand-drawn cards to help spread joy for the upcoming Jewish New Year. All proceeds go to benefit the Orphanage in Israel.

Email or Print out this special flyer and share it with your family, friends, in your home community, synagogues, schools, the JCC, etc.

Send me a picture (email: sheena@levlalev.com) of you next to flyers you posted and get 5 free Rosh Hashana cards with your own order from support.levlalev.com/rhcards

Tell us a little about yourself
I have a big family. I have a brother, step sister, step brother, step Dad, Mom and Dad. We also have 3 little dogs. I love to shop. I have been told I have a great sense of style.

How did you decide to take on this particular project for Lev LaLev?
I wanted to help people who do not have as much as me.

What was the most meaningful part of doing this Mitzvah Project?
Telling almost every person I know about helping these sweet girls.

Please share any details or fond memories of your Mitzvah Project.
I loved when I gave my speech, it was so emotional.

What are your plans for the future, i.e. life after Bat Mitzvah?
I hope to remain a part of the local Chabad as an assistant teacher for the youngest class.

Please share your advice for a girl looking into doing a Mitzvah Project.
She should always do the thing that matters to her the most. I in particular wanted to use this opportunity to help the less fortunate. Thank you for letting me be a example for your girls.

August survival tip: Don’t stress about a new school year

Whether you are going back to the same school and friends, or starting at a new school, the first day always feels like a fresh start. While it’s important to continue to grow and change from previous years, it’s just as important to not put too much pressure on yourself. Just be yourself and try to live in, and enjoy, the moment.
